I came to the UK, from South Africa, on a gap year in order to broaden my horizons by having the opportunity to meet different people throughout the world. In the end there was no better place to do that than at the LEGOLAND Windsor Resort, where you have the opportunity to continually meet different people visiting from all over the world, either to work or to enjoy the park as a guest. Obviously I had a ‘sneaky’ suspicion that working in a theme park would be fun and exciting but I could never have imagined how liberating the working atmosphere would be at the LEGOLAND Windsor Resort.
Looking back I can confidently say that I made a great decision applying to join the LEGOLAND Windsor team, I am as excited to be part of the team now as I was when I first joined in 2006.
March 2006: Front Line Assistant
June 2006: Team Leader
January 2007: Restaurant Manager
June 2010: Food & Beverage Cluster Manager
A typical day starts with a discussion on the important information and key outputs for our department. After this, we gear the team up for the day ahead and ensure that the F&B units are set up and ready for the trading day ahead.
As a Food and Beverage Cluster Manager I must ensure that the restaurants within my area run smoothly throughout the day whilst supporting the Restaurant Managers and front line staff. It’s a busy department but extremely rewarding and all involved thrive on superb team work.
Guest experience at the park is impacted by the eating experience and therefore we must deliver world class service.
Most Memorable Experience
I can think of so many memorable moments during my time working at the LEGOLAND Windsor Resort but there is a particular memory that I am able to relive every year thanks to our incredible Entertainment Department.
Once a year, the Resort puts on an amazing fireworks display and during this time there is always a fantastic atmosphere. Everyone comes together to support one another as it’s also our busiest time of the year.
I can think of no better way to finish a busy day at work than watching one of the biggest fireworks displays in the South of England.
Most Rewarding Part
The most rewarding aspect of my role is seeing the continuous development of my employees. I find a great sense of pride and reward when I have played an instrumental role in someone's personal development and observed the progression from a front line employee to Restaurant Manager and beyond.
I also enjoy the fact that working at LEGOLAND Windsor Resort I am able to play a part in creating some wonderful early memories for young children. It is truly rewarding to see all their happy faces resulting from the work we do.
