LEGOLAND® Castle Hotel Bedtime Story Competition

1.1 The promotor of this competition is the LEGOLAND Windsor Resort (on behalf of Merlin Attractions Operations Limited) (the "Promotor").
2. The Competition
2.1 The title of the competition is “LEGOLAND® Castle Hotel Bedtime Story Competition”
2.2 The competition is to create a short story which will be published as a book and placed in each bedroom in the new LEGOLAND Castle Hotel.
2.3 The competition will run from 00:00 on 27 February 2017 (the “Opening Date”) to 00:00 GMT on 27 March 2017 (the "Closing Date") inclusive. The winner will be notified by email (to the winner’s parent or legal guardian) and by way of announcement on the LEGOLAND Windsor Resort website by 11 April 2017.
3.1 To be eligible to enter the competition, entrants must obtain permission from their parent or legal guardian and must be aged between 5 and 12 on the date of entry. Entrants must also be resident in the UK and must not be employees of or immediate families of LEGOLAND Windsor Resort, LEGO Company Limited, Merlin Entertainments Group, their agents or anyone professionally connected to this competition ("Eligible Entrants").
3.2 Entrants must be available to attend the LEGOLAND Castle Hotel in April/May 2017 for media activity if their entry is selected as the winner. This date may change for reasons outside of the control of the Promotor. Upon a winner being selected, they will be required to re-confirm that they are able to attend. If the winner is no longer able to attend, the Promotor reserves the right to offer the prize to other shortlisted entrants.
3.3 It will be the responsibility of the entrant and their parent or legal guardian to ensure that their entry does not contain or reference copyright, trademarks, logos or designs owned by others. The story must be original and unpublished.
3.4 Only entries from individuals will be accepted. Any entries that the Promotor believes have been made via participation in a syndicate or use of any robotic, automatic, programmed or similar entry method will be disqualified.
3.5 Any entry that, in the sole opinion of the Promoter, is deemed to be inappropriate for publication is ineligible. Incomplete or illegible entries will be disqualified.
3.6 The Promotor may require proof that the entrant is an Eligible Entrant.
4. How to Enter
4.1 To enter this Competition entrants will need to create a short bedtime story, no longer than 500 words. Stories shall be fictional and set in a magical world of fire breathing dragons and whimsical wizards. All stories must start with ‘‘Once upon a time in the LEGOLAND Castle Hotel…’’.
4.2 In order to enter the Competition, Eligible Entrants are required to visit https://www.legoland.co.uk/castle-hotel/bedtime-story-competition/ (the "Website") to find out more on the competition. Entries can be emailed to CastleHotel.BedtimeStory@legoland.co.uk or posted by first or second class post to LEGOLAND Castle Hotel Bedtime Story Competition, LEGOLAND Windsor Resort, Winkfield Road, Windsor, SL4 4AY.
4.3 Only one entry per person.
4.3.1 Stories can be handwritten or typed (typed up by a parent or guardian) and must not exceed 500 words. Stories shall be submitted in English.
4.4 A parent or legal guardian on behalf of the entrant is required to approve the entry and agree to these terms and conditions (including the fictional nature of the story and the Promoter’s use of the story). The story must be submitted with a separate note confirming:
the entrant’s full name, address, gender and age at date of entry; and
the parent or legal guardian’s full name, address, telephone number, email address and approval to enter this competition.
The personal data provided by the entrant and parent or legal guardian will be used to administer the competition and in accordance with LEGOLAND’s privacy and cookies policy.
4.5 All entries must be received by the Promotor before the Closing Date. All Entries received after the Closing Date will be automatically disqualified. The Promotor will not accept responsibility for competition Entries that are lost, mislaid, damaged or delayed in transit, regardless of cause, including, for example, as a result of postal failure, equipment failure, technical malfunction, systems, satellite, network, server, computer hardware or software failure of any kind. In addition, the Promoter will not accept proof of posting or transmission as proof of receipt of entry to the competition.
5. Judging and The Winner
5.1 Entries will be judged by a panel of 6 judges (the "Judging Panel"). Entries will be judged on (a) creativity/originality (b) interpretation of the brief (c) perceived public appeal (the "Judging Criteria").
5.2 Entrants must be aged 5-12 years old at the time of entry. The Judging Panel will select two entries assessed using the Judging Criteria. From this selection one winner will be chosen. The decision of the judges is final and not open to appeal. No discussion will be entered into with disappointed entrants who challenge the decision of the judges.
5.3 The Promoter will send the full names of the judges to anyone who writes within one month after the Closing Date of the competition requesting details of the udiodges and who enclose a self-addressed envelope to FAO LEGOLAND Castle Hotel, The Mansion, LEGOLAND Windsor Resort, Winkfield Rd, Windsor SL4 4AY
6.3 The name and town of residence of the winner can be viewed on the LEGOLAND Windsor Resort website for 365 days after the announcement.
6.4 The Promoter will make all reasonable efforts to contact the winner’s parent or legal guardian. If the winner’s parent or legal guardian cannot be contacted or is not available, or has not claimed their prize within 7 days of the announcement date, the Promoter reserves the right to offer the prize to another shortlisted entry.
7. The Prize
7.1 One prize will be awarded. The prize will be the for the winning entrant's story to be printed as a book and placed in each bedroom of the LEGOLAND Castle Hotel for a period to be determined by the Promoter. The winner will even have the opportunity to help create illustrations for their story.
The prize will also include one overnight stay for the winner and up to 2 adults and 2 children sharing one room at the Castle Hotel. Travel, food and incidental expenses will not be covered by LEGOLAND Windsor Resort.
7.2 The winner’s story may be rewritten in places to ensure it’s legible, and grammatically correct.
7.3 There is no cash alternative for the prize and the prize is not negotiable or transferable.
8.1 All Entries submitted become the property of LEGOLAND Windsor Resort and will not be returned.
8.2 All entries are subject to approval by the Promoter. In particular, the Promoter will reject entries which are offensive, abusive, misleading, unethical, discriminating or defaming in nature.
8.3 By submitting your entry, you are agreeing to be bound by these terms and conditions. Entries must be the sole work of the entrant. Any plagiarised entry or entry that is not the sole work of the entrant will be disqualified. Entries must not have been published or received any prize or reward. Entries must not depict real events or include personal details of the entrant or any other living persons.
8.4 Insofar as is permitted by law, the Promoter, its parent company, its agents or distributors will not in any circumstances be responsible or liable to compensate the winner or accept liability for any loss, damage, personal injury or death occurring as a result of taking up the prize except where it is caused by the negligence of the Promotor, its parent company, its agents or distributors or that of their employees.
8.5 All competition entries and any accompanying material submitted to the Promoter will become the property of the Promoter on receipt and will not be returned. By submitting your entry and any accompanying material, you agree to assign to the Promoter all your intellectual property rights and waive all moral rights in your competition entry and otherwise arising in connection with your entry to which you may now or any time in the future be entitled.
8.6 By entering, you acknowledge that the entry may be posted on the Promotor's website and on social media but the Promotor is not obliged to use, post or display any entry you submit. LEGOLAND Windsor Resort shall have full right and power to copy, publish, broadcast, display, distribute, use, edit, alter, combine with other material, refuse and adapt any or all proportions of Entries in any way and for any purpose whatsoever, at any time, now or in the future, in any media.
8.7 By entering this competition, the entrant and the entrant's parent/guardian agree that, in the event that the entrant is the winner of the competition, the Promoter and its parent company may use the entrant's name, image and town or county of residence to announce the winner of this competition and for any other reasonable and related promotional purposes. It is further agreed that the entrant will participate in any reasonable publicity required by the Promoter.
8.8 If there is any reason to believe that there has been a breach of these terms and conditions, the Promoter may, at its sole discretion, reserve the right to disqualify the entrant from participating in the competition and/or withdrawing the prize including removal of the winning book from all bedrooms at the LEGOLAND Castle Hotel.
8.9 The Promoter reserves the right to replace the prize with an alternative prize of equal or higher value if circumstances beyond the Promoter’s control makes it necessary to do so. 8.9 The Promotor reserves the right to modify these terms and conditions or cancel this competition at any stage, if deemed necessary in its opinion, or if circumstances arise outside of its control, at any time on giving notice via www.LEGOLAND.co.uk/Castle
8.10 These terms and conditions shall be governed by English law, and subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
